From March 2017, the performance pathway for swimming in Bassetlaw has entered a new era with the help of BPL and their ongoing partnership with both Swim England (formerly the Amateur Swimming Association) and Bassetlaw District Council in the hopes of continuing to develop the long history and tradition of competitive swimming within the Bassetlaw area.

About Bassetlaw Swim Squad (BSS):

BSS has been in existence since the 1980’s and is a collaborative training programme supported by the three local clubs; Bircotes SC, Retford SC and Worksop Dolphins. The newly launched Performance Squad, under the guidance of Michael Glossop, will ensure swimmers represent their local community club up to county championship level and train locally up to 10 times each week. BPL currently manage the swimming pools at Bircotes Leisure Centre, Retford Leisure Centre and Worksop Leisure Centre, and were keen to take the opportunity to ensure the proud history of swimming continues in the district.

In light of his new and exciting position within BPL, Michael explained how he plans to take his new role:

"It’s really exciting to work for such a forward thinking company. My aim is to build a long term swimming pathway for Bassetlaw residents to have the opportunity to reach Olympic success. I intend to set up a squad structure focused on long term swimmer development using the Youth Physical Development Model. I’m looking forward to getting on poolside and building the foundations of the programme as well as developing the character of the individuals, not just the swimmer.”
