Bassetlaw makes swim debut at Meet

BASSETLAW Swim Squad is making its Swim England Winter Meet debut.

The squad’s Jessica Gillatt, of Retford SC and Bubble Design, is taking part in the 100m BR while Lucy Gratton of Worksop College and Worksop Dolphins is competing in the 100m individual medley.

They are two of more than 850 swimmers to compete in the event, which sees 160 clubs take part from across the country.

Commonwealth champion James Wilby, Olympic silver medallist and world champion James Guy and Commonwealth champion and silver Rio 2016 medallist Siobhan-Marie O’Connor are just some of the star swimmers taking part in the event.

Jessica and Lucy’s participation comes after Bassetlaw Swim Squad hosted its first open meet competition at Worksop Leisure Centre

Head of Performance Swimming Michael Glossop said: “We had over 700 entries so it was an important weekend for BSS, a lot of work went into organising the weekend and we can’t say enough thanks to all of the officials and volunteer helpers that made it happen. To be supported by BPL in running the event made it a lot easier and the staff at Worksop were really helpful.”
