‘Working together to enrich lives.’

BPL team-up with Weston Park Cancer Charity!

Barnsley Premier Leisure and Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity have teamed-up as part of a new 'fighting fit' initiative.

The partnership, which was officially launched on April 18th, will see BPL support the work of Weston Park through their various leisure facilities over the coming years, in a bid to help the charity raise vital funds.

With cancer currently affecting 1 in every 3 people in the UK, both BPL and Weston Park enter this venture with plans to promote exercise as a means of improving the quality of life of cancer patients as well as promoting the importance of a healthy lifestyle as an effective cancer prevention tool.

Weston Park Hospital is currently the only cancer hospital in South Yorkshire and has over 18,000 patients under its care. The charity hope to raise £2 million this year to fund ground-braking projects and to continue to offer support to patients and their families.

As a key feature of the partnership, BPL will help promote the cancer charity's renowned 'Run and Raise' initiative - encouraging members and staff alike to take part in runs whilst raising vital funds for Weston Park.

Cancer Charity Director, Samantha Kennedy, said; "We are extremely greatful to BPL for their support through this partnership. Staying healthy and active is paramount for improving the recovery of patients both during and long after treatment. We look forward to collaborating on various fundraising initiatives to help enrich the lives of cancer patients and their families through health and fitness."

BPL Chief Executive, Tim Wilson, echoed these sentiments and said: "We are delighted to be able to offer our services and facilites in support of cancer patients in the area. We intend to help Weston Park raise the funds they need, whilst promoting the benefits of exercise in the process."

The first major event as part of the partnership is a special Purple Pool Party taking place at Barnsley Metrodome's Calypso Cove Waterpark on Monday May 2nd from 12:00pm till 2:00pm. The event is non-ticketed, just be sure to arrive in good time on the day. For more info, call 01226 730060.
