Miles in May 2019

BPL are challenging people in Bassetlaw to commit to completing 26 miles worth of activities in May

The aim of the challenge is to encourage people to be more active than they usually would. Participants can complete their 26-mile pledge with a variety of activities, including walking, swimming, running and cycling.

The campaign launched in partnership with Bassetlaw Integrated Care Partnership, with the aim of inspiring more people to become more active. The purpose of the Integrated Care Partnership is to deliver improvements in health and wellbeing for Bassetlaw citizens.

This will support local people to stay well in their own homes and communities - helping everyone to be better in Bassetlaw.

BPL operated sites - including Retford, Worksop and Bircotes Leisure Centres, are offering members of the public a free day pass to gym facilities to help them kick start their 26 miles.

They are also encouraging members and participants of their Health Referral Schemes to take up the challenge.

Staff from BPL’s centres are also signing up to commit to complete 26 miles too. Many are pledging to use work facilities during/after work and also walk to work.

Nicola Boswell, Customer Service Advisor of BPL’s Bassetlaw sites, says the campaign is going to make a positive impact on the community.

She said: “Everyone is getting involved from BPL especially! I’ve already started doing 30 minutes of exercise everyday – before I didn’t do any.”

Glyn Davies, Bassetlaw Contracts Manager for BPL, has signed up to complete the challenge. He says his main aim is to complete a marathon swim; he also plans to walk to work every day.

Anyone that is interested in committing to completing 26 miles can sign up at any BPL operated Leisure Centre in Bassetlaw, or at www.betterinbassetlaw.co.uk
