Staff take on Three Peaks Challenge Charity Fundraiser

BPL STAFF from Retford Leisure Centre will be lacing up their hiking boots on Friday, as they take on the Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge, in aid of Weston Park Cancer Charity.

A Family Fun Day will follow this Saturday, celebrating 10 years since the opening of the new Retford site.

The Yorkshire Three Peaks walk is approximately 24 miles long and has an elevation of over 1,000m, tackling the Peny-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough peaks. Most participants look to complete the challenge within 12 hours.

Duty officer at Retford leisure centre, Charlotte Clarke, commented: ‘’We chose the three peaks, because it’s a good challenge for us all to get into. Weston Park are also supporting anyone who’s looking to take part in the three peaks’ hike through the Summer.’’

Other staff taking on the challenge alongside Charlotte are Helen Crossley (swimming instructor), Faith Hinitt (swimming instructor and receptionist), Kim North (gym instructor), Nathan Lane (transform schools), Claudia Vickers (gym instructor) and Ellie Hancock (receptionist).

‘’We are raising money for Weston Park and also to commemorate our 10-year anniversary of the new leisure centre opening. We wanted to do something that would really test our limits. We are a mixed ability group who have come from different areas of the business to support the fantastic work that Weston Park does,’’ said Charlotte.

‘’Everyone taking part feels a close connection to Weston Park as they have either been affected by cancer through close family or through friends. It means a lot to them to take part in such a challenge and have the chance to raise funds.’’

‘’We are hoping to raise £700 during the event, but we’d love to double this target.”

Donations and extra details of the fundraising event can be found at https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/teamretford-3-peaks

‘’Everyone at work has been very supportive, asking about our training, offering us tips and advice,’’ added Charlotte.

‘’BPL have been really helpful in allowing us to be flexible with our shifts for the walk and sharing our efforts through training and the actual walk itself.’’

Saturday’s family fun day, between 8am - 8pm, will include a purple pool party, face painting, bouncy castle, football darts and much more. All money raised on the day will go to Weston Park cancer charity.

The Mayor of Retford, Mick Storey and Chairman of the Council, David Challinor will attend.
